POP stands for “Pearls of Praise". This group serves as
the praise and worship team for the Presbyterian Methodist Students
Union at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (Ghana -
West Africa). Long before the group was inaugurated in 1997, the
group saw its turn through the founding leaders; Amartey, George, and
Sulias. Over a period of ten years the group has grown from a 15 member
group to a mass choir of about 100 students serving the students population.
The leadership mantle has passed through Felix Nyano-Techie, Felix Aduyobo,
Harold-Badu-Addo,
Nii Okai, and presently Paul Brewu. As the seniors graduate, so do new
ones come to fill the position.
However, the legacy that has sustained this group over the years has
been purely the love of Christ and total commitment. POP has developed
godly singers and musicians who are making a difference all over the
world. Jo Bray, who grew out of this group and also served as the music
director before moving to America recount the impact this group on his
musical career and ministry.
Their songs are more of a soul gospel type. Blending their native
language and Ghanaian traditional gospel highlife rhythms, reggae and
Afro-American gospel style, this group is out to offer the world their
best. The group's latest release is Onua.
Onua captures the excitement of POP Choir in a world urban inspirational
flavor mixed with Afro-American gospel tunes. A total of 11 tracks in
all, four of the songs; In Heaven Love, Submit to God, As We Come To
You, We Will Sing, were sung in English.
Many have said that if you love the Norwegian Oslo Gospel Choir, you
will love the PMSU POP Choir. Give the POP style of the gospel music
a try and you will keep coming back for more. The CD is available
