Perhaps Jo Bray is not the first African singer, songwriter, and producer
to enter the American Music Industry; but one thing is for sure: he
is a music genius. Born and raised in Ghana, Jo Bray's full name is
Joseph Benjamin Bray. He was all of 7 years old when his uncle- in-
law, a pianist, introduced him to the piano. Beginning with classical
pieces, he learned to play church hymns and Ghanaian Traditional Choral
pieces which helped him to start playing for his church and also for
his high school choir. His musical abilities enabled him to become the
music director for his college gospel group back in Ghana.
Jo formed Sound Word Entertainment in June 2002. Prior to starting the
label he formed the Praise and Worship team for the Campus Crusade Ministry,
served as the gospel choir director for few Churches in New Haven, and
currently serves as a musician at Church On The Rock located in New
Haven, Connecticut.
A classically trained musician and church “band guy” for
many years, he draws on God and his musical background for creativity.
Besides the piano, he enjoys playing the guitar. Jo Bray tracked, played
all piano and synthesizer in the “Nations” album. He has
received rave reviews since the release of his album, provided artists
interviews in many national, and e-magazines. Also, many opportunities
have presented itself for Jo to appear on National Syndicated TV talk
shows. In August 2003, Jo and his group received the "Voices of
Glory Award" from Quassy Amusement Park, Middlebury, CT during
the Christian day activities. The album continues to create a huge buzz
as he continues to tour, and perform.
As a producer and a record executive, Jo Bray looks forward to the challenges
ahead. His goal is to produce more artists, write new material and promote
positive, cutting edge sounds to the ever changing music industry.
